What to expect at home

When you move to a new home, knowing what to expect can be tricky.

It could be different from what you are used to. Here are some of the more important things you can expect to have and do:

  • You are part of the family, and will be treated the same as everyone else in the family
  • You see your family and friends, agreed with your social worker
  • Your placement is looked at on a regular basis
  • You will get regular pocket money and be able to buy the things you need
  • Your achievements and birthday will be celebrated
  • You can have sleepovers, agreed with your carer
  • You can use a computer with the internet on it
  • You will have what you need to keep clean and healthy, and to look the way you want to
  • If you don't like something, or if you aren't getting what you need, or something is causing you harm, you should tell someone. This could be your carer, your Social Worker, an advocate, teacher, or someone else you trust.
  • If you talk to an adult, they must do something about what you say. They must keep in mind what you want to happen.
